Major realizations from 2012…
1. We are all geniuses!
Do not let someone else’s agenda or another person’s opinion of you alter this realization in any way, manner or form. The real question is where to begin and what to focus on? My suggestion would be to start at a place that is at the intersection of your dreams, desires, strengths, skills and where you can give great value to others and take it from there. Do not entertain the idea that you do not matter. The world needs more people to come alive and launch their genius.
2. The difficult thing is to launch and get started on your genius!
Take action now! Yes, this is very tough. Getting through all the internal resistance and social conditioning of why we are not good enough is tough. Realize this and take a deep breath and begin NOW! Take action right now and keep taking action. Make it a habit!
3. The hardest thing is to keep moving!
All right, you have launched. Now what? This is the real test. How do you keep the hope alive in the face of no success and no returns in sight? People may laugh at you, some will caution you, others meaning well will talk you out of your genius idea. Listen to them all but do not give up on your genius idea. Keep other people’s ideas in a mental chest for future use while you doubtlessly and tirelessly work towards your genius idea!
4. There is no real safe job or comfortable place to be!
It is great you have a nice day job. But you need to start working on your genius idea and start cultivating multiple streams of income on the side. Because the truth is that there is no real security in any job. No one is irreplaceable and not many skills are completely unique. Hence, it is up to you to realize this and cultivate other interests and sources of income in your spare time. This will requite you to stay outside of your comfort zone but assuredly this is far better than the discomfort of losing a job and not knowing what to do.
5. Connect and share with others who love what you have to offer!
Your genius needs to be shared! This is very important! You have to start building a platform, an audience, people who love what you are, what you do and what you stand for. But remember that there will be haters too and that is all right. Even haters point people towards your work and the people get to decide if they love your work or not. Let your work speak for itself. Just try to steer away from indifference and people who have no opinion!
Yes, it is true that a magician needs an audience. It is not sleazy self-promotion if you share it with the world and if you do not put your great work out there for the world to see, who else will? Remember, for everyone who thinks your genius idea is great, there might be a few others who will discourage you. Share your genius anyway!
6. The best laid plans and the power of flexibility!
The best laid out plans do not work out sometimes and our best weapon is flexibility and moving right ahead in new directions and making new plans. In other words, be flexible, get feedback from your audience and improvise to provide great value.
7. Defining your own success and enjoying the little victories and moments of life!
This is the biggest realization from 2012! It is not to take yourself so seriously that you get crushed by failure. And in fact it means learning the power of failure to propel you forward and understanding that the little successes and moments do really matter. So take some time today to define what success means to you and do not waste your time on comparison.
This moment is all we have with us and if we do not take ourselves so seriously and learn from mistakes and enjoy the journey and the little moments of hope and light, we truly open up to miracles and great possibility right now!
Here is hoping that you have an endlessly magical and awesome year ahead. Make it count as one the best years of your life!
