Are you Blocking your Happiness and Creativity?

By Harish 8 Comments

STOP

Dear Readers,

Thanks for stopping by! If you are a new subscriber, thanks a lot for subscribing to Launchyourgenius!

I have a couple of questions to ask you.

Question 1: On Happiness

“Happiness depends upon ourselves.” ~Aristotle

Do you ever feel like everything is going well and then you end up short-circuiting your happiness?

I wrote a guest post recently for Dumb Little Man: 32 quick and easy ways to short-circuit your happiness. Click here to read the article or click on the image below.

dlm article

Some of these short-circuits may be obvious to you but some of them may be brewing just below the surface of your consciousness. Becoming aware of some of these short-circuits is the first step to consciously infuse more happiness into your life.

Question 2: On Creativity

“At the age of four, you were an artist. And at seven, you were a poet.”~ Seth Godin, Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?

Do you ever feel like you are knowingly or unknowingly blocking your creativity and keeping yourself stuck? This topic has been on my mind lately and I believe that we can become very creative in blocking the source of creativity and inspiration in our life and stay stuck.

I wrote a guest post for Tiny Buddha: 8 Ways We Block Our Creativity and Keep Ourselves Stuck. Please click here to read the post or click on the image below.

Hi Harish, thank you for these very interesting posts. I am a new suscriber to your blog, and i’m enjoying it. You give really useful info that make you think. These two posts totally resonate with me. I have been stuck, and unhappy for years. I have been self-improving a lot, and now that i am a mother it challenges me every day. And i am doing better.
The technique i am using lately to “just do” and stop “overthink/short-circuit my creativity” is pretending i will not do anything important today. I look at my planning/to do list and start doing. As if i was doing something meaningless. I read this somewhere and i am not sure why it is working. Maybe because when i think i am doing something very important or crucial for my small business, it freaks me out and i got stuck by the fear…anyway, thank you for your great posts!

      Hello Melimelo,
You are most welcome. And thank you for subscribing!
Thanks a lot for your comment! I am very glad that you enjoyed reading the posts.
Congratulations on being a mother! It is indeed a very challenging part of life. But it is also very rewarding.

You bring up a really interesting point. I like your technique of just doing an action and not thinking much about it. Assigning and attaching too much importance, meaning and thought to an action can cause analysis paralysis. The same technique has also helped me with taking action. When I allow the expectations to fall away and focus on just doing my best, I get a lot more done. Being too attached with the action causes a lot of unhappiness because we assume that the action and the results should be a certain way. But in reality, results can vary vastly and we can only enjoy the process more if we do not attach too much importance to the action and the results.

      Harish 🙂

        Hi,

Yes the technique of not thinking too much about do work but somehow i am not able to implement it on myself. How much ever i try to keep myself positive i end up thinking negative may be it is because i am still uncertain about the path of my life.I am jobless for almost a year now as i decided a change of career which is making it difficult for finding a new job. Always wanted to be a entrepreneur but things go well so landed myself doing job where i am not able to stick for long maximum of 1yr. Kind of lost about the path of my life. Read so many article about how things can be the way we want by positive thinking, affirmation,Law of attraction, etc but none seem to be working. Anyways i think its a little too much to write all this over here, just felt like writing. Your article is good.

          Hi Nisha,
          Thank you for your comment!
I think that the dilemma that you are having is not so uncommon as we attempt to discover our life purpose. Now for some people that purpose may not be immediately clear and it feels like searching for something that does not exist. However, instead of searching for “one right thing,” it may be more beneficial to acquire new skills and try out a few different things.

Getting clear about what we want is important but sometimes it may be hard to find what to get clear about. I think the key is to look for the things that make you happy and inspired in the current moment. Take very small steps in increasing your happiness levels in the current moment. The way I look at it is: we need to be something before we do or have something. For example, allow yourself to be and feel right now what you would like to experience in the long run.

If you have always wanted to be an entrepreneur, that might be a good place to begin. Habit research has shown that we need to take very small steps and change the context or environment that we are within in order to be successful. Big changes and habits are not sustainable but small steps and little changes in the environment are doable. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and you look up to as role models. It is wonderful to read many articles and get knowledge but ask yourself if you are reading more than you are creating or doing. My problem was that I knew a lot but I was scared to take action. Now, I spend most of my time creating or doing and less time consuming or learning.
          Hope this helps,
          Harish

            Hi,

            Thanks for reply,

Your suggestion is good. Today i got an offer for job which is a start up company which cannot pay much. But i am still willing to take up the job as i feel i can learn a lot and grow as they are also willing to train as i am new to the web design industry.

            I hope all goes well…:)
